Why not start some traditions together as a couple to make the season even more special? Check out some of these creative ideas for holiday traditions you can start this year.
Binge Watch Holiday Movies
Whether it’s binge watching holiday premieres on Hallmark or creating a checklist of all the Christmas classics to watch, like Elf or Christmas Vacation, this is an activity you both can enjoy together. Multi-task and get some wrapping done while you binge watch your favorites.
Cook & Bake Your Holiday Favorites
There’s something about the scrumptious smells that come from the kitchen during the holidays — the smell of gingerbread or your favorite Christmas cookies baking or a juicy ham or casserole in the oven. Each of you have your favorite recipes, so why not share them with one another? Pick a day to cook a special holiday meal, consisting of both of your holiday favorites. It’s a perfect way to bring both of your lives together.
A Gift a Day
Give each other a small gift each day leading up to December 25th. You don’t have to spend a lot of money- at The Diamond Galleria, we have gifts starting at $28! Consider giving one another a nice jewelry piece, your favorite holiday candy, something homemade or even write each other a letter.
Plan a Holiday Trip or Get-Together
There’s a reason they call it the “hustle and bustle” of the the holiday season. We’re always busy — holiday parties, shopping and family functions — the list is never-ending. In the peak of the busy holiday season, make plans to take a trip together, whether it’s a trip the beach or just a short weekend together to spend some quality time as a couple.
Prefer to spending time with friends? Host an annual game night, white elephant gift exchange or ugly sweater party with your mutual friends or other couples. Ask others to chip in and bring their favorite holiday dish. Add in some festive holiday drinks and games and you’re sure to have a fun-filled evening. This just might turn into an annual tradition!
Check Out Christmas Lights
This one may seem a little cheesy, but it can actually be quite romantic. Make a date to cruise around a ritzy neighborhood or neighboring town to check out all of the Christmas lights. To add to your holiday spirit, try to do it after the first snowfall and while you listen to your favorite Christmas music. Swing by Honeymoon, River City, Proper Coffee or other favorite coffee shop before you head out to sip on festive holiday beverage.
If you’re a sucker for tradition, then putting up holiday decorations together should definitely be at the top of your list. Start your holiday decorating by heading to a Christmas tree farm to pick out a tree together or pick out a new artificial one. Then, head back to string the tree with Christmas lights and decorate the rest of our your home(s) with festive holiday decor. Consider picking out some new holiday decorations together to make it even more special.
