What to Choose: Designer Ring or Non-Branded Engagement Ring?
So, you walk into the jewelry store, and you are immediately surrounded by engagement rings and wedding band options, both designer and non-branded. You just want to find her engagement ring...the engagement ring of her dreams...one that she absolutely loves, but where do you start? There’s so much information in the media about designer brands, but what if they don’t have what you’re looking for? Are the so-called “off-brands” a bad choice then? I’ve got the answer, but I don’t think you’re going to like it: It depends. However, I am here to help, so let’s take a look at the depending factors…

What She Likes

If she is wanting more of an intricate, ornate, one-of-a-kind design, then you’ll probably need to look at designs by Tacori or Verragio. But, if she is wanting something a bit more simple (a pretty band with a diamond), you might think about Hearts On Fire, Sylvie or Fire and Ice. Some women are drawn to name brands and they know what they like. So if Verragio is all she talks about, then you should check them out. On the contrary, some women just like a general style of ring (traditional, timeless, vintage) and could care less about the designer, which gives you less specific direction but does gives you more freedom in your shopping. Again, name brand designers are the best of the best, and you will pay for that.

The Diamond

Next you’ll need to consider “the rock”. When selecting a diamond you have the famous “4 C’s” to consider: Color (how white is your diamond), Cut (facet proportions), Clarity (clearness of diamond) & Carat (diamond size). There is no set percentage for which C is more important, and we love helping our clients understand the whole picture of the diamond they choose. We hand inspect and select each diamond that ends up in our store. Ultimately, the closer to perfection you go on each scale, the more your diamond will sparkle and the more it will cost. If the size is all she is worried about, then you may be able to get a bigger diamond and focus less on the other C’s. Maybe she just really wants her diamond to sparkle. If that’s the case, then you could do a smaller carat size and focus on a diamond that really shines.

Your Budget

If you haven’t already noticed, there seems to be a common theme in just about everything I’ve discussed: How much are you looking to spend. Name brand, best of the best designers cost more money, and the best of the best diamonds come with a hefty price tag as well. The best advice I can give you here is to look at rings together. Your sweetie may not understand the cost associated with all those designer rings she’s pinning on Pinterest. Maybe she just likes the way a ring looks or how sparkly the diamond appears... Shopping together will help you figure that out AND give you time to discuss your budget!   Overall, no matter which ring you choose, there is beauty to every single one because it was bought with love and someone special in mind. Just another reason why I love what I do... Tyna
